There was never a dull moment in Kyanite's life, before joining the Red Ribbon Army and after being a member. Even in relaxation, adventure and trouble always managed to find her. She was accustomed to what life threw at her and guaranteed a way to squirm out of it, even if luck wasn't always on her side. The adaption of her new identity, "Kyanite", made her feel almost unstoppable. All it took was to be rejected to get to where she was today. The humanoid "Espere" was no matter and metaphorically buried six feet under. "Espere" told the reaper that she "killed" herself, but it was for the greater good. It was then up to "Kyanite" to carry out "Espere's" ultimate goal.
But... a haunted island? "You're pullin' my boob." Kyanite was summoned by the CEO of the Red Ribbon, Yuto Botan. After her work in rescuing the kidnapped king of the earth, she was shot up all the way to the top of the list of CEO's favorite people. Not only she proved she could hold her own, but she was able to work closely with Yuto more easily. Despite the cyborg's crude mannerism, he still viewed Kyanite as someone who's held with high regard and valuable asset to the organization. So when the CEO informed her of a mission that involved a "haunted island", the cyborg was at immediate disbelief. "You mean to tell me there's ghosts roaming around our puny mortal world?" The cyborg snorted, almost nonchalant with how ridiculous the situation sounded.
Yuto sighed and shook his head at the cyborg. It was granted and understandable that the dilemma sounded fictional, but the CEO held up a few sheets of papers and laid them on the table. He separated them so the cyborg could have a better view at what was presented. Each paper had a few pictures plastered on the center with names, birthdays, and "last seen" dates. "Ridicule all you want, Kyanite, but this is very much reality and a growing problem." He started off. Before he continued, he leaned forward and pointed at each picture. "Strom Panz. 53. Last seen a week ago. Naife Sadi. 28. Last seen 3 weeks ago. Brusse Needle. 31. Last seen 2 days ago." He pointed out each individual that went missing on an island. He finally stopped naming them and continued.
"All these people went missing on the same exact island. There's also a lot of reported paranormal activity, but due to how strong it is, it scared away most for us to get an accurate reading of what exactly we're dealing with. It's clear that there's a clear connection between these two factors, as nonsensical it sounds." Yuto explained. "Look, I know this all just feels like some sort of sick joke, but these are people that have genuinely disappeared from the face of the Earth, and we need to figure out what the hell is going on in that island." And the CEO had a point. Haunted or not, Kyanite had to agree on one thing: innocent lives disappeared without a single trace and it all came from one mysterious island.
The cyborg stood silent in consideration of the situation, her eyes glued to the papers before her. "And what about the Earth Defense Force. Do they have any trail on this?" She asked. Yuto stared at the cyborg in disappointment of the question. With what happened with the kidnapped king known by an anarchism group and the woman singlehandedly rescued the important political figure on her, and the CEO's stare, she could only assume that the Earth Defense Force failed to handle the case. Maybe failed to start on it. "Fair enough." She nonchalantly shrugged her shoulders. "So, what is this mysterious island called?" She asked.
"Scarlet Cove. It's in the Southern Continent within the Tropical Islands." Yuto answered.
Kyanite rose an eyebrow at the location and ran her hand through her hair. "Hang on a sec, that doesn't sound right. As a matter of fact, all of this doesn't sound right. This island, if it's group with the other islands, just so happened to have a lot of people go missing there. There's supposed paranormal activity, but it's never been necessarily confirmed nor there's any proof. All we're going with is that there's some supernatural stuff going on that explains the disappearance of these people." Now that the cyborg thought it over, there were a few holes in the situation that made her rethink everything.
But Yuto held his hand up in case Kyanite was going to talk any further. "Listen, we can sit here and speculate all we want, but the bottom line is this: people are missing. This is an opportunity to make ourselves look good again. We already did it by saving the king, you can do it again by saving these people... should they still be alive." The CEO muttered the last sentence, hoping that was the case. This, as expected, wasn't from the goodness out of Yuto's heart. This was another tactic to gain a favorable position with the king of earth.. "Your job is simple. Go to the island and find out what the hell is going on. If there's paranormal activity, deal with it accordingly however you can. If not, do whatever you can to ensure the safety of the island." He said.
The cyborg nodded her hand and gave a mock salute to the CEO. "Ay ay, cap'n. Ghostbuster Kyanite is ready to go into action. I'll keep you up to date on what's going on." She bid the CEO farewell as she exited out of the main building. She was on the Eastern Continent and needed a way to travel all the way down to the Southern Continent. Kyanite only had her motorcycle, provided by the Red Ribbon. The cyborg rubbed her face in frustration with a heaved sigh before she shook her head at herself. "Ah hell. I need to go back inside." She uttered. She was already in Yuto's graces, so asking for a flight wouldn't be a problem. It was only a matter of time for Kyanite to reach to the victim while they're still potentially alive.
Though, Kyanite wasn't going to do this alone. At least in spirit. There was one other person that she could phone in for help and work behind the scenes to aid the cyborg; a "friend" that Kyanite knew very well within the past few weeks.
X.
X was Kyanite's recently befriended hacker who had blackmail on the cyborg of her original identity. After meeting the figure in person and learning about their origins, they both shared the same sentiment: weary and untrusting to those that aren't part of the native earthling population. X had her fair share with the Saiyans that terrorized her home and slain her family in cold blood and the cyborg had too many unpleasant experiences with most nonhuman beings. The idea that not all of them were nothing but trouble, but there were too many instances to ignore. Kyanite promised X to extract her revenge by dealing with the three Saiyans that coldheartedly slain her entire family in exchange for her help in rising to the top and taking over the Red Ribbon as the new CEO. However, they were still in the planning phase of tracking down these Saiyans and dealing with them accordingly.
The cyborg was already on a helicopter on her way to the "haunted" island. She phoned the hacker to tell the news about another operation she was assigned to. X was already impressed with Kyanite's first operation she informed her about, now she was set to investigate paranormal activities, something X was very skeptical about. "Hold on. People go missing on one island and people are immediately pointing to ghosts? Seriously?" On the other line, X could be heard holding in her chuckle in disbelief.
Although it couldn't be seen for the hacker, Kyanite also shook her head in agreement of the disbelief the hacker felt. "I know. There were even reports of paranormal activities detected, but no one knows for sure if the island was actually haunted." Even on her way to the location, the cyborg was still skeptical on what was going on. Spirits? Kyanite never believed in them and she knew there were no such thing as spirits living in the mortal world.
X scoffed, and Kyanite could feel as if she could hear the other woman roll her eyes. "Honestly? This might be some big, elaborate prank just waiting to explode. There's no way 'ghosts' could be responsible for all those peoples' disappearance. For all we know, they could've been swimming or whatever and the tides swept them away. Unfortunate, but no ghosts." She theorized. They were both on the same level of uncertainty, but something didn't sit right with the cyborg that made her think for a moment before it was her turn to chime in her thoughts.
"I don't know. As silly as it sounds, I still have to go over there and see what the hell is up with this island. It's definitely no coincidence that all these people went missing. Hell, maybe even more since the last one reported. And they never specified if it was ghosts either." Kyanite pointed out. It didn't matter if there were any sort of supernatural involvement, what mattered was finding those victims and assessing on their true status: were they all dead, were they all dead, or were some of them lucky or unlucky.
X's sigh was heavy, but sympathetic. "Out of all things you could've been doing, something more impactful, you have to do Earth Defense's Force work." Her tone was pitiful at the cyborg's assignment, but she moved on. "But hey, I get it. Orders are orders. Got to do whatever you gotta do to look good in front of the boss." She admitted.
"Yup." Was all Kyanite could say as she leaned back in her seat and took a look outside of the door. It appeared that she was approaching the tropical islands and it was time for her to drop soon. "Looks like I'll be approaching my destination shortly." She announced.
"Alrighty, then. You try to stay safe out there and see what the hell is going on in that 'Scarlet Cove' island." X said.
