There where further heights the boy sought to reach, further growth for the boy to experience, new strengths for the boy to soar to. The hybrid of Demon and Saiyan knew these all to be true, simply opening his sense to see that existed in the world around him, the immense power levels of the strongest beings on the planet Earth completely eclipsing his own in every conceivable way. It felt to the boy as if no matter how high he aimed, how hard he tried or what level of intensity his training those heights remained ever out of his reach.
But he knew there was one area in which he was beyond just about everyone he’d met so far, his agility, speed and skill in the air where far and above what his limited power would suggest. While others where content to simply learn to fly, seemingly content to have added a third dimension to their mobility. But Liek was trained in the Fury arts of combat and saw things a little differently, simply being able to move in three dimensions wasn’t enough, he wanted to rule the skies, to be one with it, just as his forebears had.
It was for this reason the youth was meditating, of all things, near Kame House under the watchful eye of Master Roshi. The old man had agreed to supervise his training once again, and while the old man may not have known how to fly himself, but so many of his students had learned the skill over the years he’d picked up enough to at least understand it. Or, at least, that’s what the old man liked to tell himself, truthfully we was well aware that the boy in front of him had already surpassed the skill of his past students in this particular skill. Honestly, it was scary how fast the boy had grown, in skill the boy had surpassed his former students at flight before he’d even met the boy, and in terms of power his growth was meteoric.
In just a few weeks the boy’s strength had skyrocketed. If he continued growing at this pace he had already risen to the heights of being the second or third strongest warrior of Earth, and the lad hadn't even started to awaken the depths of the latent power sleeping within, from either his Saiyan or Demonic sides.. That thought brought both a pang of sadness, and a sense of pride to the old man’s heart. Sadness because the drive to reach that power wasn’t the pure love of martial arts, and instead the desire for power to fend off the threat of the Saiyan Empire, and pride because the old man saw all of his students as surrogate grandchildren. He was certain Liek’s adoptive grandmother would be feeling the same kind as he was.
Liek’s mediation was focused on the very concept of the wind. There was no part of it he did not consider or contemplate. How the wind moved, what molecules made up the composition of the air, the way air and gravity interacted and the way both heat and it’s absence influenced the flow of the wind, causing currents to both rise and fall. In a way the wind was not unlike the water, all the same principles applied to both, the only difference being in density, and whether you could breath it.
Which gave Liek an idea! The added density of the ocean would act on his body in much the same way as his weighted jacket did, making his movements more difficult, but greatly enhancing the benefits of his training. Or, at least, it should.
“Master.” He spoke, “I believe I have an idea on how to train my flight.”
“Ho?” The old man asked with raised eyebrows, “Let me hear it?”
The boy stood up and smiled, “I’m going to fly that obstacle course you mapped out for my warm ups… but I’ll do it underwater and try to match my record!” The obstacle course he was mentioning was one the old master had concocted during the boy’s initial training with the man to help him build a routine. It wasn’t some easy straight line, it involved many hard turns and loops and obstructions those flying it would have to avoid. It had taken Liek nearly two weeks since he’d first started training under Roshi's tutelage to run the entire course without running into anything…
And now he wanted to run the course underwater…
The ancient martial artist was flabbergasted at the simplicity, and yet genius of the idea. If the boy tried to fly as he normally did in full gear underwater he’d lose control in an instant, not to mention the extra effort needed just to move forwards. Trust a Saiyan to come up with a training method that was maddening in both it’s effectiveness and it’s simplicity.
Laughing the old man replied, “Hold on, I’ll get the stop watch!”
Moments later the old man stood with the time keeping device in hand. After a brief discussion the two had revised the course slightly to account for certain obstructions not being present, since they where on islands. With the revised course in mind the two stood ready, Liek braced in a ready position on the beach.
“THREE!” Roshi counted.
“TWO!” Turtle cheered from a safe distance.
“ONE!” Roshi raised an arm, a motion Turtle matched.
“GO!!” Both hermit and Testudine yelled at the same time, dropping their arms to signal the boy.
And with a sonic boom the boy leapt into action, diving head first into the water and using his ki to power through it, leaving a trail of cavitation bubbles in his wake. Navigating underwater at this speeds was difficult, the boy needing to apply a shield of ki over his eyes just to not be blinded by the rushing brine. Then there was the matter of holding his breath, which the boy hoped reinforcing his lungs with ki would suffice for a while. Actually manoeuvring was also a whole new struggle; moving in the air was simple enough, but the ocean actively resisted having him pass through it, arresting his movement far faster then he was used to and throwing off his rhythm significantly.
By the time Liek managed to make it back to Master Roshi Turtle was already taking a nap and the old man was sitting in a fold out chair reading a magazine with a suspicious cover. The boy dragged himself up the beach and flopped over the ‘finish line’ drawn in the sand.
The old man hit the button on the stop watch and muttered, “Twenty six whole minutes. You got some work to do boy! Your target is two minutes!”
Liek just groaned and pulled himself up off the ground, “Yes Master!” And despite his bodies protests he dived right back into the ocean to continue his training.
