The rich scents of the forest below wafted up to the young hybrid’s nostrils as he hovered high over the forest of Korin, the sea of green stretching out around the youth as he hovered near the base of the spindly tower that bore the same name. Below him, in the clearing near the tower he could see the village of the Karinga Tribe, whom he had met the last time he’d come to the tower. This time he’d briefly stopped by to ensure all was well with the locals, their chief, Borra, had welcomed his return and assured the young man that there was nothing he need concern himself with.
Cast his eyes heaven’s ward the young man could make out the top of the tower, the bulbous shape at the top marking where Master Korin resided. Last time he’d been here he’d climbed the tower by hand, in part just to prove he could, in part from tradition, and in part because he didn’t think he could fly the whole way under his own power. But now was different, with a spark of ki the young man accelerated upwards, launching himself into the sky until he reached the balcony of the Tower.
Alighting gently on the ledge Liek Galswith smiled as he waved at the ancient cat, “Hey there, Master Korin, long time no see!” He smiled as the small furball’s ears perked up at the sound.
“Ho ho!” the ancient feline chortled, “If it isn’t Liek! So you managed to fly up here this time!” He noted as he came over to observe the young man up close, “You’ve certainly gotten stronger, that’s for certain!” Rubbing his chin the mystical animal added, “Though I take it this is more a pit stop then a social call? Finally biting the bullet and going to see The Guardian, then?”
The young man nodded, “Yeah, that’s the plan.” Leaning against the railing the young man used it as leverage as he leaned back and looked up into the deep blue of the sky, he took a moment to breath before adding, “Master Roshi’s been good to me, but I need to strive even higher then he can help with.” The young man’s eyes narrowed, “As the Inheritor of the Fury I can’t afford to let anyone get ahead of me. I have to get stronger then anyone to ensure the history of the Fury isn’t lost.”
Korin remained silent for a moment, recalling what he knew of the Fury. It wasn’t much, but he did observe the events of a hundred years ago during the hidden war. What he’d witnessed had been a mixed bag; The spy caste where underhanded, deceptive and cowardly, some real scum who mostly fought dirty. Then there was the warrior caste, they where ruthless but for the most part conducted themselves with honour. That’s not to say they didn’t use tricks, but they didn’t do so in a disrespectful way. The ancient cat didn’t know too much about them beyond that, but he did know Liek, and Liek had a good and true heart. If Liek thought there was something about the Fury worth preserving, then it was probably true.
“Well… I can’t say I have an opinion one way or the other, but if a kindhearted fella like you says it, then I can get behind it.” Korin eventually replied with a nod. He then poked the youth with his cane, “Anyway. Get going! Off with you to Dende.” The earned a chuckle from the youth who nodded and leapt out of the Tower and flared his ki before rocketing into the sky. Staring at the glow of the boy’s ki the ancient feline sighed before walking back into his home for the ever important chore of napping.
Bursting through the clouds the young man finally reached his goal, the half sphere construct called the Lookout. The home of the Guardians of Earth, even if Liek knew next to nothing about what that actually meant at the moment, the where the man known as Dende resided. Honestly, Liek was nervous. He only had a vague idea as to what Dende actually looked like; all he got from the projection during his first foray into telepathy was that he was quite tall. But, given that he could only sense two powers from the Lookout it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out which was Dende, right?
Flying up over the edge of the Lookout the young man landed gently on the tiled ground taking in the layout. The platform was expansive, a pristine expanse of white marble that seemed untouched by time or weather. From its edge, the Earth below stretched endlessly, like a living canvas of blues, greens, and browns. Clouds lazily drifted by, their soft forms sometimes brushing against the Lookout’s underside, adding to the ethereal feeling of being suspended in another realm.
At the heart of this sacred place stood a domed palace, its architecture simple yet profound. The golden tiles of its roof gleamed under the sunlight, casting shimmering reflections that danced across the surrounding platform. Its structure, though not imposing, carried an air of wisdom and reverence, as though the walls themselves held secrets from centuries past.
Leading to the entrance where two rows of palm trees, lining the edges of the platform where four garden beds, each hosting three trees. Another pair of garden beds where arranged in front of the annexes on either side of the main building, also playing host to three trees, though smaller then the ones near the outer edge.
Looking in wonder the young man could only exhale in wonder at what he was seeing. This place, it was otherworldly, not at all something he expected to find in the mortal plane. But then he hadn’t really known what to expect. He’d heard that the title of Guardian of Earth was also called ‘Kami’ sometimes, a word that meant God. And seeing this place he could well understand why people would place such a lofty title upon the person who called this place home.
“You must be Liek.” A voice called out from a short distance away, snapping the young man from his musing. Looking at the source the young hybrid found himself looking at a squat man with nearly pitch black skin. The man offered a pleasant smile before bowing politely, “I am Popo, the attendant of the Guardian.” Straightening up the man held out an arm towards the entrance of the Lookout, “Right this way, Dende has been expecting you.”
Swallowing the youth nodded and followed the attendant.
